Education Summer

NEA’s Education Summer (ES) program assists state affiliates in build strong local associations with long-term organizing capacity.  Over a six to eight-week period, ES produces a highly skilled group of education organizers capable of responding to the needs of their members, students and their communities through one to one organizing through house visits, summer schools, and association sponsored activities.  The program develops fundamental organizing skills and invests in a distributive leadership development model.  At the heart of the program are member organizers (MOs), a diverse cohort who engages with our membership and potential members.

Ed Summer capitalizes on our most valuable resource—our members—to help build union power and activism.  Our members’ ability to draw from personal work and union experience to engage current members and activate potential ones is invaluable. Through this program, union members are given the skills to organize their co-workers and communities on any type of issue. This deepens their commitment to their Association and increases capacity in their local unions. The program helps to foster a culture of organizing, member engagement, and accountability.
