NEA's Read Across America

Celebrating a Nation of Diverse Readers

NEA's Read Across America Online Resource Calendar is here!

Bring the celebration of reading and literacy into your classroom, library, and school all year long and celebrate NEA’s Read Across America program!

Use our newly launched Read Across America digital calendar to plan ahead for special celebrations and observances throughout the school year. Each month, we offer suggested books for readers of all levels, plus activities, and resources to help you create fun, exciting learning experiences around them.

Many of the books in this year’s calendar are available to educators at a reduced cost from our partner First Book. Visit the First Book Marketplace to find books that will help your students see themselves and their experiences in the books they read.

The 2018-19 Read Across America Resource Calendar is a benefit of NEA membership. NEA members may order up to 5 print calendars each online while supplies last by visiting the Read Across America Online Store. Postage and shipping not included.

Why Diverse Books Are So Important

Reading Resources for Every Month of the Year!

Reading Is Fundamental is proud to partner with National Education Association to promote the Read Across America 2018-19 calendar. Celebrate and grow a community of readers with carefully selected titles and activities for each month. These books drive home the message the people, with their diverse interest and backgrounds, are what make our communities across the country special and strong. Each month’s book features activities and resources to build on the theme of neighborhood and community.

Library Grants Return Thanks to NEA Foundation

Thanks to generous support from the NEA Foundation, the Read Across America Library Grants are back!  Congratulations to the recipients of NEA’s RAA 2018 Library Grants!

Save School Librarians

Schools across the country might not have librarians next school year. Facing drastic budget cuts, schools are making hard choices about programs to keep or cut. Help protect your library — a vital extension of your classroom and a technology-rich hub of student learning. Find out how.

United Through Reading’s 40 Million Stories Campaign

Deployments and separation continue to be a reality for military families. Children have an estimated 180 nights without their parent at home for bedtime stories. That’s 40 million stories missed each year by military children. NEA is partnering with United Through Reading to connect military families to the read-aloud experience. We believe that every military child deserves a bedtime story. Find out how you can help!
