 Indicators 12345
KEY 1 - INDICATOR 2
Teachers, administrators and other school employees take responsibility for the achievement of challenging standards for all students.

This indicator examines whether the staff has a collective commitment to and takes responsibility for implementing high standards for all students.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
  1. What evidence is there of a commitment to the achievement of high standards among school employees?
  2. What steps can the staff take to work toward a collective commitment to high standards?

ACTIVITY

  • In small group discussions, consider the existence of—or lack of—commitment among teachers, administrators, education support professionals, and other school employees for all students to achieve high standards. What evidence is there to support your positions? How would the staff react to a suggestion that school employees have responsibility for helping students beyond the classroom, for example? What other ways can members of the staff demonstrate their commitment to all students?
  • Have each group share its findings. Look for similarities and differences among the groups for use in future discussions.
  • Examine steps that you need to take to work toward a collective commitment to ensuring that all students learn at the highest possible levels.
